DIY Mold Testing and Cleaning

DIY Mold Testing and Cleaning

When a house smells musty or when there are visible black, green or white stains on the walls or other surfaces, then there must be existence of molds in the house. Though some kinds of molds are harmless, there are some kinds that can be harmful to ones health. Scientific studies show that toxic molds can weaken the bodies’ defenses and can cause respiratory or neurological sickness. The best solution for this problem is to remove molds and mildews as soon as possible and to make sure that they do not return.

Most people use the bleach solution to remove molds. Bleach, however, contains toxic substances and produces fumes that can be dangerous to pets, children and even adults. So it is advisable to use mold testing and removal kits that are especially aimed to get rid of molds. These are mostly organic so they are perfectly safe for humans and pets alike. Also, they are not expensive at all!

Mold testing usually involves the lifting of a mold sample by putting a scotch tape over a suspected mold growth on the walls and other surfaces or simply scraping off the mold into the mold testing kit. A mold control test using a do-it-yourself mold test kit should be done outside the home or building and with a mask so as not to harm anyone.

If there is indeed a mold infestation in the house, then it is time to use the mold removal kit. Removing molds usually involves a two step process.

The first step is to kill the mold at the surface by spraying with the mold removal spray and scrubbing it off with a brush. It may be advisable to spray the area again and then wipe it clean by a rug.

The second step is to spray the area with a mold shield solution. This is called as encapsulation because this will trap the mold spores so that they cannot spread to other areas. The fungicidal coating helps to protect the wood and other cellulose-based building materials against future mold growth.

It is that easy! But things will get easier on December 1, 2009, the introduction of the most advanced mold removal kit. The kit is so complete that it also has a mold testing kit that can be brought to laboratories for testing. Please visit http://www.diymoldremovalproducts.com for more information.
